Description
Summary:Affiche uitgegeven in 1989 door Amnesty International Verenigd Koninkrijk voor mensenrechten in Myanmar. Afbeelding: foto van een militair. Tekst: In Myanmar I am the law, I am the judge, I am the solution, you are the people, you are the problem, you are the enemy. Myanmar, formerly known as Burma has been brutally ruled by ‘TATMADAW’, the military for 28 years. In 1988 there were massive largely peacefull (sic) demonstrations for democracy throughout the country. They were met by guns and bayonets. Thousands of unarmed civilians were killed by soldiers. The army maintains an iron grip on the country. Terror stalks the cities, towns and villages. The prisons are full of political detainees, hundreds of them prisoners of conscience held solely for the peaceful expression of their opinions. Many have been sentenced to death, after unfair trials, by military tribunals. In Myanmar, torture is a matter of routine. In the rain forests on Myanmar’s borders the ethnic minorities, the Karen, Kachin and Shan peoples face repression and arbitrary brutality as the military respond to armed insurgents with savage reprisals against unarmed villagers.
